Acid Rain, Marisela Vanegas Alas Solo Show

Acid Rain is An exhibit of digital works on canvas by Marisela Vanegas Alas.

With one taste, this neon avoured fantasy will melt o your skin like morning dew on cotton candy.

The title of the featured collection is an allusion to the profound euphoric state and intensied sensory perception characterized by the psychedelic experience, in the context of a post industrial world aict- ed by its own zeal for productivity.

Marisela created each piece on her mobile phone using only free software and a hollow, aluminum dollar-store stylus. The signature fuscia accent colour of the collection is the result of a glitch in the software, which lagged under the maximum resolution parameters.

This experiment emerged from an attempt to replicate the meditative process of creating acrylic paint based mixed media pieces on canvas, which she could no longer continue to pursue due to lack of resources and physical real estate. Instead of admitting defeat, she simply turned to the mundane technology residing in her back pocket, which broadened the context of her work environment and streamlined her creation process.

The exhibition takes place 7-15 April at Electric Jungle, 304 Newark Avenue, Jersey City, NJ, USA.
