Curator talk - Picasso and Paper

William G. Robinson is one of the curators of the Picasso and Paper exhibition, and in this episode of the podcast we talk about putting together this huge exhibition with over 300 works on display.

He discusses the project, its evolution and working with institutions in different countries. We go on to talk about Cleveland Museum of Art’s own modern art collection and the artist’s prolific output.

Five things i learned from William G Robinson

  1. This is his fourth Picasso exhibition and he has previously worked with both the Musee Picasso Paris and Royal Academy, London.

  2. The Cleveland Museum of Art is a collecting institution. This means that it is a regularly growing art collection through purchases and donations.

  3. It is a gallery with a significant Picasso collection in the USA. Though perhaps not the largest it is the quality of the Picasso works in its collection which is outstanding.

  4. The exhibition was 4 years in preparation and has over 300 art works.

  5. The catalogue raisonne for Picasso is over 33 volumes compared to Monet, whose catalogue raisonne is around 3 volumes.

Picasso and Paper is at the Royal Academy London from 25th January to 13th April, 2020 and then it moves to Cleveland Museum of Art

The exhibition is sponsored by the City of Malaga.
