Ryan Stanier talks about The Other Art Fair

In this episode of the podcast I sat down with the founder of The Other Art Fair, Ryan Stanier. We talked about how the fair started and what he learned from the early days. Then we go on to discuss the fair as a key event on the London art calendar and how it has grown to 12 cities around the world.

With around 140 artists at each fair, the event attracts enthusiastic buyers seeking new artistic talent as well as curators and galleries looking to expand their roster.

5 Things I Learned from Ryan

  1. He always had big plans and wanted the fair to have an international reach and work with artists all year round not only the days of fairs.

  2. Key turning points in the fair were 2014 when Tracey Emin agreed to take a booth and sell some of her work for under £100. And then in 2016 when Saatchi Art came on board giving the participating artists an online presence throughout the year.

  3. He looks for compatible sponsors whose values are aligned with the fair’s business, and want to participate in more engaged ways with the artists and visitors.

  4. The fair takes place in 12 Cities now with London and Brooklyn both having 2 fairs a year

  5. Greener Futures is the environmental initiative that the fair is focussing on for the coming period. This means encouraging reducing waste, using public transport, and travelling less where possible.
