Charulatha Sridhar
Artist Charulatha Sridhar is based in Chennai, India. With a background in computer science, mathematics and psychology, she has formally trained under recognised artist-painters. Charulatha began with watercolours and started exhibiting in 2008. She describes her paintings as: “At once acts of love and resistance! Love for the subjects expressed in all media through the portraits of men and women who bear a silence that speaks of their passion amidst the technological banalisation of life, work, and culture. My portraits are mirrors of difference that aim to seize the extraordinary in the faces and figures of my models.” Inspired by contemporary artists, she has developed a personal and impressionistic style, that is seen across the various subjects of her paintings including, still life, landscape and self-portraits. “They are a source of spiritual affirmation because they result from a process of simultaneous discovery of the Self and the Other through the eye and the hand, dancing with the warm and the cool, figuring strokes gentle and bold that manifest through the mimetic and the symbolic.”
