Jessica Worrall
With over thirty years experience as a theatre designer in both mainstream and alternative theatre, Jessica Worrall developed a more autonomous creative practice as a digital collage artist during the pandemic.
Her work deals with issues of status and class and gender and how this is shaped and influenced by external forces.
“In my theatre design work I have always been concerned with ways of depicting the status and power of both setting and character and how to make this relevant to a contemporary audience.
Whilst costume is often used to allow the viewer to easily identify particular
types of characters or stereotypes, it has always been important to me that I am not blindly enforcing these tropes and have always tried to directly challenge them to offer a different narrative where I can.”
“I have always been concerned with ways of depicting the status and power of both setting and character and how to make this relevant to a contemporary audience.
A lot of couture and indeed fashion (generally male designed) imposes a very strong ideal of female sexuality.”
Jessica’s work has been featured in the John Paul Gaultier A to Z exhibition in Dubai 2022, Londnr magazine and Does Not Exist Magazine.
