Kate Quadfordt

Brooklyn based multifaceted artist Kate Quarfordt’s works are architectural portraits and abstract landscapes evoke themes of longing, resilience and the inner multitudes of women’s lives.

Of her series “Sentinels”, she shares, “In this moment of amplified oppression of women and other marginalized groups and the health of our planet itself, I feel an urgent impulse to summon the protective presence of these towering female energies. Based on portraits captured of friends with their eyes closed in intimate moments of reflection or song, the compositions are collaged into a salvaged book about skyscrapers. The painted collages in this series are then photographed, printed on canvas nearly 8.5 feet tall, and embellished with paint, gouache and fiber.”
