Louisa Armburst

Louisa Armbrust is a Brooklyn based artist who makes paintings, drawings and installations that foreground the contradictions of everyday life in the digital age.

“My projects explore the moment where people and technology intersect and where the desires for autonomy, consumption and privacy collide. In equal measure, searching, humorous and sobering, my projects seek to illuminate the disconnect that separates ideals from lived experience.”

About her recent collection, Louisa shares , “We live in a world that strives to consume the entirety of our time and attention. Work, play, social media, and the 24/7 news cycle cry out for our attention at all hours of the day and night. Our ability to seek refuge in a place where all that can be ignored, turned off, and tuned out is vital to our very self- preservation. The “In the Dark” drawings are about our attempts to find that space.”

Louisa holds an MFA from Goldsmiths College, London and has exhibited at museums and galleries including the Children’s Museum of the Arts, New York, Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, Staten Island, NY, the Urban Institute of Contemporary Art, Grand Rapids, MI, the Hofstra Museum, Hempstead, NY, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver.
