Ryan Maves

Ryan Maves is a sculptor working from his home studio in Phoenix, Arizona. He employs various mediums in his sculptures including found objects, and repurposes commonly discarded items into his work.

About his work, he says: “At the times when I am alone, in my mind, at home, in the studio, I think about the stories we tell ourselves and those we had no choice in learning. While conceiving this work, I thought about how you could tell a story through the context of materiality rather than an image, through objects which may seem familiar but never tell the same story twice, and through narrative without the burden of meaning. My work is not a vessel to hold my intention but, rather, something more porous like a mountain hollowed by mines. All I’ve done is make space in the betweens for you to find meaning.”
