Rebecca Wilson & Saatchi Art

My guest for this episode of the podcast is Rebecca Wilson, the head curator at Saatchi Art. Saatchi Art started life as a portfolio website before it became a retail platform. In this episode Rebecca talks about how the platform evolved, and the various aspects of her work including vetting submissions, sourcing art for projects, and marketing.

Rebecca Wilson is the head curator at Saatchi Art and with her team reviews every submission to one of the worlds largest online galleries. In this episode she talks about the various aspects of her work and what goes on behind the scenes to support artists.

Five things I learned from Rebecca

  1. Saatchi Art is no longer associated with the Saatchi Gallery in London. It became a separate company and now Rebecca and her team are based in LA.

  2. All the submissions to the online gallery are seen by one of the team of curators.

  3. With her team, they advise both individual clients on art as well as working with designers on interiors projects such as hotels, offices and even cruise ships. Art for these projects can be direct from the site, or it can be a commission or a bespoke piece from one of the artists on the website.

  4. The Other Art Fair takes place at various locations around the world, Rebecca sits on the jury for all of the, and works with a panel to review submissions from artists wishing to take part.

  5. Regularly updating your page on Saatchi Art can improve your visibility. She also advises artists to include as much information about themselves such as location, training, exhibiting history, and artists statement, and adding new art works regularly.
