Lance Paull
Lance Paull is an artist, visual by choice and temperament. He started painting at age 8—choosing art lessons over guitar. At 21, he completed a BFA in painting at the University of Utah and upon graduating was awarded a painting grant by the Greenshields Foundation that enabled his expanding artistic journey to NYC and Boston.
In 1981, Paull completed an MFA in Painting at Boston University where he studied with Phillip Guston and James Weeks—a notable “Bay area” figurative painter. Their approach to color, space and story telling still inform him today. “Painting is a kind of war between the moment and the pull of memory” - Phillip Guston
Lance shares about his career, “At the end of my studies I exhibited at the Boston University Art Gallery with my fellow graduates and later had my first one-person show at the Chapel Gallery in Newton, Massachusetts, I exhibited in several group shows, including one at the Worcester Art Museum featuring emerging artists from the New England area. My first job was teaching painting, drawing and design at the Art Institute of Boston where I also exhibited along with faculty.
Over the past decade, I have given more attention to my first passion—painting. Creating illusions and telling stories while exploring vision and experience. In the past few years I’ve been able to show my work in Brooklyn NY, Toronto ON and Santa Monica CA.”
