Marie Lenclos
Marie Lenclos is a French artist living and working in London since 1995. Her strong figurative urban landscapes focus on the lines, light and colour of familiar streets near where she lives and works, in Loughborough Junction.
Lenclos studied at Camberwell College of Art and the Royal College of Art in Communication Art and Design. She first developed her personal view of the city by working as a freelance documentary film maker for around 15 years. She got used to 'framing' things all the time, even without a camera. Walking around she would suddenly see something and think: 'this would make a good shot'. Since returning to oil painting 5 years ago, she sees something and thinks: 'there is a painting in this'.
Lenclos has gradually become a full time painter over the last few years. Her work has been exhibited at many galleries and at the Affordable Art Fair in 2019. She sells widely, to collectors worldwide. Two of her paintings have been selected for the 2021 Royal Association of British Painters exhibition.
About her art, Marie shares, “My paintings capture a 'moment of seeing', when lines, light, colours and shapes all fall into a particular order that suddenly makes sense to me. I am particularly attracted to strong lines and clear composition, which I see all around me in my urban surroundings. My main sources of inspiration are the streets around where I live, in Loughborough Junction. I see and walk through them every day, able to contemplate the changes brought by light, times of the day, mood, weather and other natural factors.”
