Maria works from her studio in Hertfordshire, UK. In recent years she has been exploring the sculptural potential of paper. Creating precise sculptural paper cuts to create dynamic geometric mixed media artworks.

Intrigued by the natural world and the symbolism behind it, Maria hand stitches three dimensional birds, butterflies, dragonflies and botanical elements using an array of papers.

Designing each element, she has developed this layering technique. Repetition is used to capture a sense of rhythm & movement. Maria is intrigued by how the viewer interacts with her pieces and the emotions they imbue. Hoping to draw the viewer in to each artwork, creating a sense of calm.

Light and shadow also form an important aspect of the artwork. The framed pieces can be lit to enhance this.

Maria appeared in the summer edition of Art Seen Magazine, Issue 12. See details here
