Rachel Wold
Rachel Wold is an abstract artist based in Seattle, Washington where her studio is located. She grew up drawing, painting, and exploring the Pacific Northwest and finds solace and inspiration in nature. Although prolific early in life, Rachel fell out of a creative lifestyle in her mid-twenties after pursuing degrees and a career in science. She works in ocean science at the University of Washington’s Applied Physics Lab and has led research cruises throughout Washington waters. Ideas for artworks would occasionally surface but she didn’t know where or how to start.
She says, “My art is a form of therapy, developed in response to the frantic energy of modern life. I use expressive abstraction and a Pacific Northwest palette to explore a meditative practice, creating space for what I feel or need. My paintings begin intuitively, with a few tones inspired by the world around me and mixed directly on the canvas. I move pigment, explore and experiment with tactile textures or fluid splatters, adding and subtracting as a conversation unfolds between the piece and myself. A contemplative dialog of exploration and curiosity. The results are immersive mood pieces that contain moments of calm and space for reflection. I hope that the viewer feels the invitation to pause, to explore the artwork and delight in discovery, to lose themselves in the moment.”
