Lance Paull
Lance Paull has been painting since childhood. His life’s travels introduced him to new experiences and challenges, stimulating his imagination and driving his curiosity to learn, see, and create. His works often depict the behind the scenes aspects of old-world circus performers’ lives behind the curtain or outside the ring. Lance shares, “I am inspired by subjects and narratives that challenge and give the pleasure of discovery. I visually explore, define and illuminate the real and imagined with line, light and colour, dramatizing a moment or idea. Art, mythology and poetry inform and enhance my understanding of humanity. My interests in theatre and allegory are an exploration into subjects that seem distant and full of oddities but reveal universal truths. The old-world circus welcomed performers, misfits and grifters who play with our sensibilities, inspiring wonder and magical thinking, expanding our visual possibilities. What is the role illusion plays? What is real and not real?”
