Matt Jukes

Australian-born artist Matt Jukes creates abstract monoprints of forgotten landscapes and misremembered places. Entwined with the idea of memory, Matt’s artworks expose the layering of his process-led style. The relationship between planes of land and sky and the depth of distance make for minimalistic pieces of art that capture the haziness of memories. Matt’s work is both meditative and nostalgic. He reimagines landscapes through an emotional response, and transforms them into something far off, yet evocative and familiar. Through the exploration of colour and texture, Matt’s work takes the viewer on a journey, one that acts as a conduit to the exploration of their own relationship to emotion and memory. He shares, “Through the exploration of colour and texture, I want to take the viewer on a journey with my work, one that acts as a conduit to the exploration of their own relationship to emotion and memory. Capturing misremembered landscapes from obscured memories, viewers are invited to share the emotions embedded in each piece, finding their own places and embracing their own reflections and creating personal memories that contribute to the wider context of my body of work.” His work can be found in rooms of the British Institution, Claridge’s Hotel, aboard Saga Cruise Ships and in the homes of numerous private collectors across the globe.
