Art fair secrets: Insights for emerging artists Michael Wallner shares his exhibiting experience as an art fair regular, having traded at over 30 events. Art Seen reaches out to him to share his wisdom

When did you first trade at an art fair?

My first art fair was The New Artist Fair at the Truman Brewery in 2013, a year after I gave up my television career and became a full-time artist. I didn’t sell a thing! But the experience taught me so much. Then I applied for The Other Art Fair in 2014, and that changed everything.

How many fairs do you attend to sell at in a year?

I take part in around 10 art fairs a year, including The Other Art Fair in London, New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago (if selected!), The Affordable Art Fair in London with Degree Art, our open studios at Wimbledon Art Studios, Art For Youth, and pop-ups with ARRTI Gallery, my London collective.
