Myra Eastman
Myra Eastman was born in Los Angeles and lives in Santa Cruz, California. She was the 2019 recipient of the Santa Cruz County Rydell Fellowship, which helps individual visual artists pursue their creative work, and is made solely on the merits of their artistry and not tied to the completion of any specific projects.
She says: “I am a painter whose work is grounded in political and social narratives. Many of my paintings are like puzzle pieces, holding disparate vignettes together to make the whole. I strive to contain the often- chaotic energy, creating areas of calm and reflection; the point being, the viewer must be engaged but not overwhelmed. Perspective is relative, never really making much sense. Instead, colour, shape and form provide the context, with pattern also used to help integrate the composition.”
