Skye Holland

Skye Holland is a London-based contemporary artist using mixed media to create drawings, paintings, panel works, and prints.

Her artwork is a commentary on our ever-shifting interaction with the natural and wild, and the equilibrium on which we all coexist and depend.

Skye trained in Fine Art Printmaking at Central St Martin’s School of Art before working and living in South Africa during the 1990s. There, Skye and her young family explored wild spaces, experiencing wildlife at close quarters. This was where her passion for conservation was ignited. Her work moves between highly technical figurative drawing to more emotive, expressionistic, and dynamic paintings. She says, “Drawing is at the core of all my artwork - much like handwriting, it is the clearest, most authentic voice in my mark-making arsenal. The looser flicks and drips, pools and bleeds of paint e-sumi style are like the undoing of a tightly buttoned dress ... form is allowed to billow out.”

She often works in series, and her most recent is the Fragile Earth Series. The Fragile Series of circular forms was largely inspired by the amazing full moons which marked the slow passage of time during the 2020/21 lockdowns. They serve as microcosms with stories about birth, regeneration, death, and renewal. They also speak of the delicate balance between man’s imprint on wild habitats and how the encroachment is impacting all life on earth.

Skye has exhibited internationally and often works on private commissions. Her work is represented in the MTN art collection in South Africa.
