Hype Yourself by Lucy Werner
A great book by a London PR aimed at small businesses. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again for the people at the back ‘Artist has Exhibition’ is not a headline or a newsworthy story.
Hype Yourself gives plenty of advice and suggestions at creating a hook for a story that can help you get media attention in an already busy online world.
Your Inner Critic is a Jerk by Danielle Krysa aka The Jealous Curator
I loved this book because i see the self doubt over and over at studio visits. This book reminds us of the limitations we put on ourselves with actionable advice to overcome the inner critic and keep making and creating. Each chapter takes you through different moments of self doubt such as comparison or fear of the blank page. Plus there’s input from other artists and exercises to help you work through with confidence.

Creative Block by Danielle Krysa aka The Jealous Curator
Another excellent book by Danielle helping you get through feeling stuck in the studio. The book has a bunch of exercises and projects as well as interviews and conversations with other artists who talk about their own challenges and ways to get through them.
Curationism by David Balzer
I loved this book. It goes through the history of a lot of major exhibitions, turning points in twentieth century exhibition making and curating. In a world where everyone is a curator of content. instagram feeds, music playlists and more, Balzer explores what this means in the contemporary and digital world. A really insightful read in to areas of the art world often closed.
How to be an artist by Jerry Saltz
I was fortunate to receive a preview copy of this book by the New York Magazine art critic. The book is a collection of articles he wrote for a column of the same name. It’s motivational and inspiring as the author encourages the reader to pursue their calling whatever creative endeavour that might be. Reminding artists to make art for themselves and not for glory or for the critic, he goes on write through practice comes progress and from there we find our own voice or visual language.
