Epp Jääger
Epp Jääger is an international artist and architect, currently residing in Singapore. She was born in Estonia and studied art and architecture in Sweden. Having worked a number of years as an architect in Scandinavia and Singapore, she felt that she needed to recreate herself. In this thinking process she found her way back to her origin, which is creating things that bring bring joy to her life. She started to paint again 2020.
In 2013 she adventured to South East Asia, where she discovered a world very different from her own – a world full of vibrant colours, rich of ornaments and fabulous artifacts and interesting people. She immediately recognized what she wanted to express with her art, sharing her personal experience of the exotic people and places around the world in colours.
As she travelled around the region, she became fascinated with people and their way of living and working. During her travels she observed the locals, their outfits, clothing, facial decorations, ornaments, patterns in fabrics, artifacts and architecture. This became the base inspiration for her paintings.
Her work is about perceiving and documenting everyday lives of the people and transfiguring her imagination into subjective narrative by using vivid colours and rich decoration. Her paintings are an expression of admiration for humanity – willingness to express joy and happiness despite the hardships of everyday life. Working in acrylic paints, she employs mixing different styles. She loves to use bold colour pallets, monochrome colour schemes, contrasting colours and decorative mark making.
