Rajwant Kaur Sandhu
Radjwant Kaur is an Indian artist who has exhibited in a number of exhibitions in Mumbai and New Dehli.
Rajwant originally intended to join the medical profession but family circumstances and pressures saw her take a different path with marriage and children.
She sees art as communicating subtleties where words can often fail.
“I have travelled to different places in India and there are so many languages that the moment I picked up a few words of one language, I was travelling again. Language became a barrier in communication. Today when my paintings are exhibited in galleries and people who speak different languages view them, I know for certain that a very subtle thing is communicated which isn’t slave to form and words.”
In Mumbai I was selected for the Sir J J School of Art at age 32. This gave me the sense of freedom I had never felt in my life. The freedom was a bit stifling in the beginning but slowly I started expressing the joy and freedom through paintings and colours. I went on to do my BFA and then MFA from Sir J J School of Art and also taught there whilst teaching my two children.
Art and meditation gave me the strength to unshackle myself from the chains that bound me. I am free now and very happy to be in the wonderful world of colours today!”
