Liz Pounsett

Portsmouth-based artist Liz Pounsett creates surreal and unusual artwork which provokes a reaction and often includes an element of fun. Working mainly in collage, she combines her own photographs, found images and pages from second-hand books. Compositions incorporate contrasting images, from early photographs to pop art, and from Canaletto to street art. They invite the viewer to create their own narrative. Her love for urban art is a theme that she often returns to.

About her art, she shares, “My work connects collage, urban art, photography and mixed media. I use found imagery, working with second hand books photographs and old magazines. Paste up walls have always fascinated me and collage is very similar in that I can create layers and textures and add tears and folds. My collages can incorporate just two or three pieces in a simple composition whilst other work can take days and use multiple fragments from different sources. Art has to be accessible for all and, although I like my work to have a narrative, I also want the pieces I create to have immediate impact.”
